Christopher J. Deraney, DIRECTOR
In late 2014, Christopher Deraney moved to Barnesville, Georgia when he acquired his grandparent’s home: the late Joe and Mable Deraney, former business owners and operators of Deraney’s Department Store in downtown Barnesville.
The son of Ginger Deraney and the late Rick Deraney, Sr., Christopher grew up in Fayetteville, Georgia and attended Georgia Southern University where he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Music with a concentration in Vocal Performance. After leaving graduate school, Christopher sang semi-professional opera with the Atlanta Opera Company, until a near-fatal car accident in 2011 temporarily halted his vocal career. Facing a change of career, Christopher later worked in In-Flight Scheduling and Entertainment Systems Technology, and finally in Sales and Social Media Marketing for Nickell Equipment Rental in Griffin, Georgia shortly after moving to Barnesville. In addition to becoming the new Director of the Chamber of Commerce, Christopher is the Music Director at his grandparent’s beloved church, St. Peter the Rock Catholic Church in Thomaston, Georgia.
Civics and Community involvement have always played an integral part in Christopher’s upbringing, even prompting a run for the Georgia State House of Representatives in 2014. After moving to Barnesville, he made it his endeavor to get involved locally, and now, will move forward in representing small business interests for our fair cities and county alike!
