Barnesville BBQ & Blues Festival
On April 26-27, downtown Barnesville will host the annual BBQ & Blues Festival. The event is sanctioned by the Florida BBQ Association, and was declared a State Championship Cook-off by Governor Sonny Perdue in 2009. Last year, 45 pro cook teams competed in the Triple Crown Series and the coveted Jack Daniel’s National Qualifier Competition.
To accompany the fabulous BBQ aroma is the sound of blues throughout the entire event. Bands from across the southeast will perform Friday and Saturday on the BBQ stage. At the Saturday night concert bash located at The Ritz Park Amphitheater, we always have a featured Blues headliner, present a Georgia Music Legend Award, Mayor Dewaine T. Bell Scholarship, and jam with other special guests. You never know who may show up!
The Barnesville-Lamar County Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that the 2013 BBQ & Blues committee will be awarding its 6th annual scholarship in memory of the late Mayor Dewaine T. Bell. The scholarship is paid for by festival sponsorships as well as memorial paper pig sales.
The LCCHS Soccer Team will be holding a raffle for a Primo Grill sponsored by the Piggly Wiggly in Griffin. These raffle tickets are $1 each or $5 for six. The LCCHS cheerleaders are also selling Scholarship Pigs. These pink pigs are sold for $1, $5 and $10 and the proceeds go to the Dewaine T. Bell Scholarship Foundation. Show your support to these students by buying a raffle ticket or Scholarship Pig.
The Custom Auto and Truck Show will feature all pre-1983 cars, trucks, motorcycles, or any year custom vehicle or race cars. The show will be held in the United Bank parking lot and will begin at 6:00 pm on Friday, April 26. Registration is $10.00 per car. Prizes will be given to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, a Best-in-Show trophy will be presented, Diamond in the Rough trophy, People’s Choice trophy, and 50/50 pot to the 1st place winner.
The BBQ & Blues Festival is an exciting family event that you do not want to miss. Be sure to check all of the links for detailed information or to view the official BBQ & Blues Newsletter for the specifics. Throughout all of the BBQ, music and people and Pitmasters filming, we do not want to overlook the participation of the students. Wide support from the community is just what these students need to give them the courage to take their opportunities and turn them into successes.
