    President and CEO

    Christopher J. Deraney

After a lifetime of using his voice to make music, Christopher J. Deraney decided to become a public servant to help empower the voices of others. Christopher is a modern conservative Christian raised in the South Atlanta airport town of Fayetteville, Georgia. His early life included soccer games, piano recitals, church on Wednesdays and Sundays, and trips to Dairy Queen with his family. He is a recipient of the National Principal's Leadership Award and the 'I Dare You' Leadership Award.

In 2006, and again in 2009, Christopher graduated from Georgia Southern University with both a Bachelor and Master of Music Degree in Vocal Performance (respectively). Upon leaving Georgia Southern, he became the general music teacher at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School in Atlanta, Georgia, as well as becoming an active vocalist in the Atlanta community, pursuing a career in opera and singing several seasons with the Atlanta Opera Chorus. Unfortunately, in 2011, a near-fatal car accident left him unable to sing at the professional level, and a career shift began to take place.

After losing his historic campaign for the Georgia State House of Representatives, Christopher was blessed with the opportunity to move to Barnesville, Georgia—the native countryside town of his father's upbringing—when he acquired his grandparent's historical downtown home.

In April 2017, Christopher was hired as the new President and CEO of the Barnesville-Lamar County Chamber of Commerce. His passion for seeing businesses flourish was a driving motivator when seeking this new endeavor. Joining his love for his family and local history, and realizing an exciting path forward for his community, he recently oversaw the rebranding of the Chamber of Commerce, where business becomes priority one and where Historically Driven—Forwardly Innovative is its creed.

Beyond the Chamber, Christopher is the Choir Director at his church, St. Peter the Rock and is the new owner of the local downtown favorite—The Pizzeria...and Such. And, with great delight, Christopher is new to the Board of Directors of the Lamar Arts Association in 2018.
